Zoie Sky got to start the summer off the way we love…finishing up our latest room for two very deserving kids. When we met Megan and Johnny they were sleeping on the floor in their living room. They had never known what it was like to have their very own beds. Their mom was working hard to keep them safe and happy, but was unable to afford a bedroom for the two. Thats where Zoie Sky stepped in! We, along with some students from Baker College of Flint’s Interior Design Department, were able to design a room fit for a Princess and a little Rock Star! Megan and Johnny were so surprised and there mom says they are constantly playing in their new room. When the room was finished we were able to pray with and for this truly loving family and we hope that as you read this you will say a little prayer for them too. Smiles come in all shapes and sizes and we hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of Megan and Johnny in their new room.
The Zoie Sky Foundation has some exciting news. We are moving into a new office! The new office will function as a place where people can find out about us, sign up to volunteer, and where all of the planning for our projects can come together. We are so excited to see how God is growing this organization that started as a simple dream. We can’t wait until the renovation on the office is complete so we can share it with everyone. These are just a few pictures of the renovation in process…enjoy…
So we here at Zoie Sky have been quite busy! We met with our newest family The Brown’s and are getting ready to get their room underway. Megan and Johnny are 3 and 1 respectively and are currently sleeping in their family room. Johnny in a crib and Megan on the floor. They have a room that will soon be their’s and we can’t wait to see their faces when its done. We are working with students from the Interior Design Department at Baker College in Flint to design and install everything so that Megan and Johnny can have a brand new room all their own. On June 17th* we will be going to paint the room and on June 27th* we will be installing all the furniture and putting our special Zoie Sky touch on their new room. We can’t wait to share pictures and stories with you…
*If you want to help on either of these days just e-mail us from the “contact” page.
How does Zoie Sky afford to do these rooms? We get asked this question almost as much as we get asked anything about Zoie Sky. People are always curious how we can do such amazing bedrooms for so many kids. Well the answer is simple…fundraising! Fundraising is part of any organization and it is often the hardest part to be honest. But we at Zoie Sky are committed to this cause because we are truly committed to our Zoie Sky families. So how can you get involved? Maybe you don’t have time to actually commit to a room, but that does not mean you can’t be a part of Zoie Sky. In fact we have an awesome opportunity for you to get involved, meet some of the volunteers, and enjoy some amazing mangolian bbq all at the same time. We are going to be holding a fundraiser at BD’s Mongolian Grill at 4205 Miller Rd. Flint, 48507. It is going to be on May 12th, 2011. The event will include all you can eat food and non-alcoholic drinks for $25 per adult. Tickets must be purchased in advance for Zoie Sky to receive a percentage of the profits. Children’s tickets (up to age 12) will be purchased at the door for $5.99 and kids 2 and under are FREE. Our goal is to sell 200 tickets. This goal has never been met at a BD’s fundraising event before and we want to set a record! So contact any Zoie Sky volunteer to purchase a ticket or call Kali directly at 810.513.1934! Come out and become part of this amazing movement across Flint to “give children a place to dream”! Thank you in advance for all your prayers and support of Zoie Sky so far!
*The fundraiser will be held from 5pm to 8:30 pm on May12th!
In October Zoie Sky got the privilege of designing an incredible 10 year old boy’s room. Dylan is a typical 4th grade boy. He loves his family, his friends, and especially his Detroit Lions. Zoie Sky met Dylan through Pastor Roger at the East Side Mission in Flint. Pastor Roger had seen Dylan and his mom Veronica helping many people at the mission in the kitchen and at clothing drives. However, he also knew that they were in just as much need as many of the families they were helping. Once Zoie Sky heard about Dylan’s story and his needs they knew they had to help. So they met with Dylan and his mom to begin renovating his room. Dylan’s only request were that he have bunk beds so he could entertain friends, and a Detroit Lions theme. Over the course of three days many volunteers made Dylan’s dream bedroom come to life. The first day of the renovation was Dylan’s Birthday so the Zoie Sky team surprised him by singing “Happy Birthday” and gave him a Detroit Lions cake. The second day was full of work prepping and painting the room, and the last day was filled with set-up. Dylan’s room was amazing. He loves his new room. It is a space that he can enjoy and call his own. To top it all off the Lions even won there first game the following weekend! Once the room was complete the Zoie Sky volunteers felt like something was still missing. So they wrote a letter to the Lions asking if they would be interested in donating anything to put in Dylan’s room, and guess what? They sent a SIGNED BALL!!! Now Dylan’s room is truly complete. It is an incredible space for an incredible boy. Zoie Sky and all of its volunteers are so thankful to have been a piece of God’s story in Dylan’s life. We urge anyone reading this to say a prayer for Dylan, his family, and all our Zoie Sky children.
